Wilpattu is a large western park known for natural lakes called villus, leopards, and a quieter safari feel than Yala. Drives take time because the park is wide and less crowded.
It suits travellers who prefer patience and space over busy jeep clusters. Access is often linked with Anuradhapura or the northwest coast.
One full safari day is a good minimum if you want a fair look at the park.

Jeep safaris are the way inside the park. Private cars bring you from Anuradhapura, Habarana, or coastal bases. Distances inside the park are long, so expect fuller day drives.
Drier months can improve track access and wildlife viewing near water. Some roads suffer in heavy rain. Confirm open gates and track conditions before booking.
Pairs with Anuradhapura on Cultural Triangle routes, or with Kalpitiya and Negombo on a northwest loop.
