Hill Country
Ella is a small hill town known for viewpoints, short hikes, and the scenic train approach through tea country. Many visitors stay two nights to cover the main walks without rushing.
The centre is compact, with cafes and guesthouses clustered near the station. Trails and viewpoints sit a short tuk tuk or walk away.
It is a strong link between Nuwara Eliya tea country and the southern plains toward Yala or the beach.

January to April for clearer skies and drier trails. December can also be lovely.

Walking works for town and nearby viewpoints. Tuk tuks help for Ella Rock trailheads and Nine Arch Bridge. The train is the highlight arrival or departure for many people.
January to March is often clearer for views. Mist and rain can hide viewpoints any month. Carry a light rain layer for afternoon walks.
Best after Kandy or Nuwara Eliya by train or road, then south toward Udawalawe, Yala, or the coast.
