Udawalawe is a reliable park for elephant viewing across open grassland and reservoir edges. It is often easier for first time safari travellers than denser parks.
Most people come for a half day jeep drive and continue toward the hills or the south coast. An overnight nearby helps if you want an early start.
The elephant transit home is a separate visit some travellers add when schedules allow.
