Why visit Yala
Yala is Sri Lanka's best known national park for leopard sightings, elephants, and mixed wildlife drives. Most visitors stay just outside the park and enter by jeep for morning or afternoon safaris.
Sightings are never guaranteed, but the landscape of scrub, lakes, and coastline makes the drive worthwhile even on quieter animal days.
It pairs well with Ella from the hills or with south coast beaches after safari nights.

Getting around
Safari jeeps are required inside the park. Hotels around Tissamaharama and nearby areas arrange pickups. A private car links Yala with Ella, Udawalawe, or the coast.

February to June can be strong for wildlife viewing when water sources draw animals. Some park blocks close seasonally. Ask your lodge about current access.
